Design firm LAYER unveiled this really special knitted Tent Chair created for brand Moroso. It was featured at the 2017 Salone del Mobile. This is actually the seventh time that the two work together but it is one that is special since we are seeing 3D knitting.
The Tent Chair is the very first in the world of its kind as it is 3D knitted. It basically took 2 years to get to this level and around 20 prototypes. LAYER is focused on smart materials and new technologies so it should come as no surprise to see that we have something like this launched.

Speaking about the chair, it is one that is lightweight, offering great support and comfort. It utilizes materials that are 100% recyclable. You can use it both outdoors and indoors and has a real breathable nature. Water can go right through it. If weather situations are moist, it will not be a problem.
You should know that the 3D chair is made out of 50,000 meters of yarn and 2 million knitted loops. Everything works well together to create a seamless piece. Integrated cushions and sleeves appear, combined with a steel frame. Digital knitting tech was used. This means just one production process will be necessary. Manufacturing the 3D chair is efficient and may be the future of modern furniture interior design. We never know.
