The Mountain Restaurant above is located in a mountain setting and is a great example of how a little ingenuity can make even a remote location special. This project handled by Murman Architects is all about the restaurant’s connection to nature during both winter and summer.
The architects wanted to create a building that showcases how it was built from miles away. In fact, the restaurant was supposed to be carried by helicopter. However, the plans were ditched since the building needed a supply route. Still, the idea showcases what level of portability was initially desired.
On the inside you will find only durable materials like carpet and pinewood. The restaurant will be visited by many wearing ski boots so everything was built around the theme of durability and wood. The triangular shape stands out from a distance, making you wonder what is there. Combine this with the scenery and you will surely want to eat something and grab some hot cocoa right after you ski.

A main focus was put on strong landscape form. Material expression and color were sacrificed. Even so, we do have strong local Sami culture influence in the choice of materials and design. The entrance is inviting and the restaurant can seat 80 people at the same time. In case you were wondering, the menu is international.
