Most living rooms just feel off and you have no idea why. This is a shame since a living room is oftentimes a room that is highly used inside a home. Having proper layout that manages to promote a suitable traffic flow is mandatory.
When it comes to living room arrangement, there are many things to take into account. The two that are the most important are furniture placement and spacing. Besides this, you should also remember the following living room arrangement mistakes so you do not make them.
Blocked Entryways
When you first walk into the living room, you need to have proper clearance. The very last thing you want is to end up having to go past a couch or some other furniture/plant. A room instantly looks more welcoming when the entryway is completely free. It just makes a good first impression.
Not Using The 3 Foot Rule
All around the living room, you need walking space. At least 3 feet is usually recommended. Such space allows you to feel comfortable and you do not end up bumping into walls or knocking right into furniture. If there is furniture that has drawers or doors, 3 feet help you to always properly open them without a problem.
Always respect the 3 foot rule to have no problems when you navigate a living room.
Pushing All Furniture Against Walls
Never push furniture all up against your walls. Just pull the seating you choose (like a sofa) out from the wall. Do so for at least 12 inches. This simple move makes the living room cozier and more inviting. When everything is up against walls, it creates dead space right in the middle of the room.
Improper Rug Placement
When you decide to add an area rug to your living room, seating should be situated so that legs are completely off or on it. Wobbling is horrible.
Position area rugs so that their corners and edges are not placed in major walkways. This reduces the possibility that people end up tripping when walking around.
Lighting Placement Problems
When you use table lamps, you have to be sure that the shades are not really large so that people would not be poked or knocked over. All extension and electrical cords should be placed so that you do not trip over them.
